Week 9: Podcasts, Video & Downloadable audio
Week 8: Online Applications & Tools. "One large benefit to web-based applications it that they eliminate the need to worry about different software versions or file types as you email documents or move from PC to PC."

Week 6: Tagging, Folksonomies & Technorati: Have already created a Del.icio.us account as well as one for the ref unit. A recommended tutorial on Del.icio.us is at http://www.ottergroup.com/learning2.0/?p=14
More how to info for Del.icio.us at http://plcmclearning.blogspot.com/2006/09/13-tagging-folksomonies-social.html

Links to ideas about Library 2.0 and Web 2.0 can be found at http://plcmclearning.blogspot.com/2006/09/15-on-library-20-web-20.html

Rick Anderson, for instance, writes about 3 icebergs: 1) The “just in case” collection, 2) Reliance on user education, including "We need to focus our efforts not on teaching research skills but on eliminating the barriers that exist between patrons and the information they need, so they can spend as little time as possible wrestling with lousy search interfaces and as much time as possible actually reading and learning" and "But if our services can’t be used without training, then it’s the SERVICES THAT NEED TO BE FIXED—not our patrons" and 3) The “come to us” model of library service

Michael Stephens points out that "Librarian 2.0, then, is the “strategy guide” for helping users find information, gather knowledge and create content." His primary points include: 1) "Librarians 2.0 plans for their users" by "User-centered libraries breakdown barriers", 2) "Librarian 2.0 embraces Web 2.0 tools", 3) "Librarian 2.0 controls technolust", 4) "Librarian 2.0 makes good, yet fast decisions", 5) "Librarian 2.0 is a trendspotter", and 6) "Librarian 2.0 gets content"

Lesson 5 (Play Week) looks familiar, actually: using an online image generator and using "Rollyo" to roll my own search tool...whatever that means...

This Generator Blog http://generatorblog.blogspot.com/ has an amazing number of "generators" including the following:

Hey, there is a "Library 2.0 Idea Generator" at http://www.daveyp.com/cgi-bin/l2/ideas.pl

There is a collection of ideas added to the whiteboard: http://www.daveyp.com/blog/stuff/whiteboard.php

Two ideas generated at the Library 2.0 Idea Generator that I chose to add to the Whiteboard are "reinvigorate the biblioblogosphere" and "discard the most cynical librarian at your library and reshelve all of your books in height order"

And who can resist the celebrity baby name generator? http://generatorblog.blogspot.com/2008/08/celebrity-baby-name.html

An interesting collection of sites: http://presurfer.blogspot.com/

I already have a LibraryThing account and many titles added.

ROLLYO: "Rollyo allows you to create your own search tool for the just the websites you know and trust." http://www.rollyo.com/ Describes itself as: "Your searchroll is a collection of the sites you trust and find useful. It's a personal search engine you create to provide relevant results from a hand selected list of reliable sites."

Have not created my own searchroll.....may do that eventually.
Lesson 4: RSS & Newsreaders: Set up a www.bloglines.com RSS reader.

Bloglines has a SEARCH feature: http://www.bloglines.com/search.

Alternately, can look for feeds on www.feedster.com

To look for newsfeeds and info: http://www.topix.net/

At http://www.syndic8.com/ Welcome to Syndic8.com. This is the place to come to find RSS and Atom news feeds on a wide variety of topics. There is a lot here...

At http://www.technorati.com/ can search for blogs here
Lesson 3 also included a link to a Trading Card maker, yet again by using Fickr photos, at http://bighugelabs.com/flickr/deck.php

Additional MASHUP options for Flickr are at: http://www.flickr.com/services/

Web Applications: http://www.flickrbits.com/#webapps (where you will find some overlap of things already mentioned)

And Flickr Tools: http://www.quickonlinetips.com/archives/2005/03/great-flickr-tools-collection/
Lesson 3 (Photos & Images): Exploring Flickr. Have set up a Flickr account; via Yahoo. See www.flickr.com. Also part of this lesson is "discover some Flickr mashups and 3rd party sites".

According to wikipedia: "...MASHUP is a web application that combines data from more than one source into a single integrated tool".

And "MAPPR was built to explore the idea of a collaborative mapped photo space, without having to wait for cameras to come with automatic GPS locators in them. The project is open to Flickr users, has mapped over a million photos, and continues to query Flickr’s collection of photos on a daily basis." according to http://stamen.com/projects/mappr. Looking at the STAMEN site you'll notice that they have several other projects as well, although as of 2007 they are no longer processing Flickr photos.

Another program allows you to search Flickr for a specific color: http://www.krazydad.com/colrpickr/

And yet another creates a photo mosaic of Flickr photos: http://www.deviousgelatin.com/montager/image.php
Lesson 2 (Blogging): Setting up this blog
Actually, would like to document the other lessons first. Lesson 1 was the introduction and included "The 7 & 1/2 Online Tutorial" about the "7.5 Habits of Highly Successful Lifelong Learners:
Habit 1: Begin with the end in mind
Habit 2: Accept responsibility for your own learning
Habit 3: View problems as challenges
Habit 4: Have confidence in yourself as a competent, effective learner
Habit 5: Create your own learning toolbox
Habit 6: Use technology to your advantage
Habit 7: Teach/mentor others
Habit 7½: Play"
With a PowerPoint at http://www.slideshare.net/LoriReed/7-12-habits-of-lifelong-learners
re-entering the library 2.0 world: following Charlotte-Mecklenburg's Learning 2.0 series of 23 lessons (http://plcmcl2-things.blogspot.com/). Week one is an introduction, week 2 covers setting up a blog (this is the blog), week 3 is exploring flickr (have an account there with public and private pictures), week 4 is subscribing to RSS feeds - this is definitely a favorite of mine, as I have subscribed to several RSS feeds about science, innovations and gadgets. Looks like I am on #5: Online Image Generator. Will try this right now.
